TheGunBlog.ca — Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, said he will repeal Bill C-21 and Bill C-71 if his party forms government as expected in this year’s election, marking his strongest and clearest promise to undo Liberal Party attacks against gun owners.

The current Liberal-led administration invented the two laws passed in 2019 and 2023 as part of its work to criminalize government-licensed gun users, destroy the firearm industry, and weaken personal and public safety.

‘I Will Repeal These Laws’

“I voted against these laws. I will repeal these laws,” Poilievre said in French to Guy Morin, a gun-rights advocate in Quebec.

Morin shared a video of his conversation with Poilievre on X.com on January 12.

Why It Matters

  • The Conservatives are the only party in the House of Commons and Senate to defend Canada’s 2.4 million government-licensed firearm users.
  • Poilievre almost never commits to specific firearm policies, even though he has frequently pledged to undo or reverse what the Liberals have done.
  • Although Poilievre comments to Morin offer hope, repealing Bill C-21 and Bill C-71 could take years.

More Context

  • Opinion polls aggregated by 338Canada.com suggest the Conservatives will win close to two-thirds of the seats in the House of Commons.
  • The New Democratic Party, Bloc Québécois, and Greens voted in favour of Bill C-21 and Bill C-71. The Conservatives, including Poilievre, voted against the crackdowns.

Liberals Share Video

The Liberals shared Morin’s video of Poilievre on their X account as they work to expand their mass criminalizations and confiscations targeting honest Canadians.
