TheGunBlog.ca — Canada’s Liberal Party-led administration proposed the following new criminalizations targeting government-licensed firearm businesses that make or import firearms.

Key Points

  • The Liberals aim to criminalize government-licensed firearm businesses that don’t provide “an indication” to the RCMP Registrar of Firearms of certain details for each firearm they intend to make or to import.
  • Doesn’t require businesses to share the number of goods actually made or imported, since the details must be provided before the items are made or imported.
  • No requirement to get explicit Registrar approval or FRT number for the planned manufacture or import. You just need evidence that you provided the desired info to the Registrar.
  • No requirement to provide serial numbers.
  • The Liberals filed the new prohibitions with the House of Commons on December 13.

Analysis

  • The proposals contradict what the Liberals and RCMP outlined December 05, when they said they would require all firearms entering the Canadian market to get explicit approval for sale by the RCMP via their Firearms Reference Table (FRT).
  • The welcome divergence provides further evidence that the Liberals and RCMP are inventing their anti-gun policy hour by hour without any plan or goal other than to criminalize honest citizens and businesses, destroy the firearm industry, and weaken safety and security.
  • To the best of our knowledge, TheGunBlog.ca is the first to make these proposed policies public and easily available online.

Proposed New Criminalizations

Context

  • The Liberals invented Canada’s current anti-gun regime as they work to suppress gun users, destroy the firearm industry, and weaken safety and security.
  • All individuals and businesses that do anything with firearms are regulated by criminal law, including: buying, selling, possessing, making, repairing, importing, transporting, and using.
  • The Liberals said the following on December 05 to describe their latest plans:
    • “Next Friday December 13, we will table regulations to ensure that no firearm can come into Canada or be sold in Canada without first being approved by the RCMP.” — Dominic LeBlanc, 05 December 2024, media briefing (Timestamp: 09:10)
    • “Every firearm coming into the country now will be registered and managed through the Firearms Reference Table.” — RCMP Deputy Commissioner Bryan Larkin, 05 December 2024, media briefing (Timestamp: 48:00)
    • “The Government intends to table regulatory amendments in Parliament on December 13, 2024, following through on commitments to make sure that all makes and models of firearms are accounted for prior to entering the Canadian market.” (05 December 2024 press release)
    • “As part of its efforts to strengthen the classification regime, the Government intends to table regulations on December 13 to make sure that all makes and models of firearms are accounted for prior to entering the Canadian market.” (Slides in media technical briefing)
