TheGunBlog.ca — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said it’s “actively working” to prepare the 2018 Commissioner of Firearms report with data on gun licensing and ownership by hunters, farmers, sport shooters and firearm collectors.
Tania Vaughan, a spokeswoman for the Ottawa-based RCMP, made the comment to TheGunBlog.ca today by e-mail in response to our questions about when the report would be published.
The RCMP oversees the Canadian Firearms Program.
RCMP Comment
The Canadian Firearms Program is actively working on the 2018 report. Tabling of the report is a parliamentary process and is made by the Minister of Public Safety. The Firearms Act does not stipulate an exact date for the report to be presented to the minister, but only states as soon as practicable in a calendar year.
The 2015 and 2016 reports were publicly available in April and May of the following year.
The 2017 edition was released in December 2018.
The RCMP provided recent data on gun licensing and ownership to TheGunBlog.ca this month.
