TheGunBlog.ca — Canadian officials count guns seized from criminals as coming from within the country even when their origin is unknown, the Toronto Sun said, without saying where it got the information.

From a Commentary on April 4

In some jurisdictions, any handgun seized with its serial number filed off are catalogued as being locally acquired, despite the fact that the lack of a serial number makes them untraceable—to anywhere or to anyone.

So, it’s a dishonest fact-fiddling and fear mongering.

Authorities have contradicted each other about the source of firearms used by criminals. Some police and politicians have said most are smuggled from the U.S., and others have said that most are obtained within Canada.

Statistics Canada said a month ago: “What we don’t know: the origin of firearms involved in gun crime in Canada.”
