Most Multiple Shooters Are Stopped by People With Guns, FBI Says

TheGunBlog.ca — Canada almost never authorizes private individuals to carry guns for protection. In the U.S., almost every attacker who killed or tried to kill multiple people with bullets in the past two years was stopped or countered by bullets, or people armed with them, the FBI said last week.

Out of the 50 so-called “active shooter” attacks in 2016 and 2017, 46 were stopped by suicide, police, or armed private individuals, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation said May 3 in “Active Shooter Incidents in the United States in 2016 and 2017.”

The remaining four were ended by private individuals without guns, the FBI said. In one incident, a person used his car as a weapon to intentionally strike the shooter, causing him to drop his rifles and flee before he was intercepted by police.

“Armed and unarmed citizens engaged the shooter in 10 incidents,” the FBI said. “They safely and successfully ended the shootings in eight of those incidents. Their selfless actions likely saved many lives.”
