Glock Expects Canadian G45 in Late 2020, Seeks More Local Models
TheGunBlog.ca — Glock, the maker of the world’s most-popular handgun, expects a Canadian version of its model 45 pistol to arrive in Canada late this year after delays from Covid-19, and aims to sell more country-specific editions.
“I don’t expect to see the G45 until year’s end now,” James Cassells, Glock’s Canadian sales manager, told TheGunBlog.ca by e-mail on July 22 in response to our questions. “I am hoping to have some other Canadian-specific models.”
Covid-19 Delays
Cassells had said in December he expected the 9 mm G45 to arrive in the summer, possibly even in the second quarter, after Glock released its first .22LR model in January.
He said “the Covid crisis has been very challenging in many ways.”
‘Compact Crossover’
The company calls the G45 a “compact crossover.” It has the grip of the Glock 17, the manufacturer’s original design, with the slide and barrel of the smaller G19.
Major Recurring Market
Glock’s products are popular around the world for personal protection, competition and recreation.
It makes longer barrels and shrinks the magazine capacity for some designs to meet Canadian legal restrictions.
Although dwarfed by the U.S., Canada is one of Glock’s largest recurring annual markets worldwide.
