Half of Firearms Advisory Body Tied to Gun Control, Calibre Says

Half the government-appointed Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee has ties to the Coalition for Gun Control, and a majority of the advisors may favour additional paperwork and restrictions for gun users, according to an analysis by Calibre magazine.

The magazine researched the committee members and their affiliations to assess experience with firearms and firearms policy after the Ministry of Public Safety published the names of seven new members yesterday. The chair and two vice-chairs were named last month, and the committee had its first meeting this week in Ottawa.

“Of the 10 members, 5 represent organizations that are themselves members of the Coalition for Gun Control, an entity aimed at lobbying government for greater regulation of firearms,” Calibre said on its website yesterday. “Additionally, it is likely that at least six are vocally in favour of additional regulation.”
